Let’s Get Literate is an interactive fiction website meant to act as a resource for elementary and middle school students to develop digital literacy skills by having players journey through a day in the life of a student as they encounter different scenarios relating to proper technology and social media use, in which the player is prompted to make a choice for how they would respond in each situation, where only the answer demonstrating safe and smart internet usage will allow them to continue with the story and make it to the end of the day. Each scenario will present the player with two choices, one which represents the best way to respond to the situation, and the other choice being an action that is unsafe and would result in the player facing bad consequences if they were to do it in real life. Each scenario in the story is meant to mirror a situation and choice that the player will most likely have to face, specifically in their middle school years. They were each created with the intention of being realistic, and each one focuses on a  different aspect of digital literacy and proper internet usage.
Ultimately, my design choices for Let’s Get Literate reflect my desire to create a fun, engaging, and educational website that is targeted toward younger students and preteens who are just beginning to have independence on the internet and use it without many restrictions, though a lot of the lessons I gave throughout the story are actually very valuable for people of all ages, as we can all brush up on our digital literacy skills.
This project was both designed and developed entirely by me. I used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to code this functional website.
